4. Unbelief and distrust is being crucified while our faith in Christ increases.

5. Murmering and complaing or are we having lips and a heart of gratitude.

6. Transformation of our character comes from endurance and long suffering.

7. Our loyalties are tested.

Ah, yes. Toxic people, toxic circumstances and toxic language abound in our polluted world. Thank God we are not of it, but we still live in it until it's time to graduate to GLORY. So, what can we do with all the toxic things that try to smell up our lives on a daily basis?

Let's talk about toxic people.
1. Recognize that's what they are. (That's not judging incorrectly...by their fruit you shall know them). Sadly, even some Christians are carnal and therefore toxic.
2. Detach emotionally from them. Put them at arm's length in your mind and heart.
3. Forgive them for their toxic behavior towards you. Bless them in the name of the Lord and move on and away from them, if at all possible.

What about toxic circumstances:
1. If you're in a family situation get outside counsel and help. That's not weakness, that's wisdom and stren...

We've been given the job to manage the garden of our life

My mother always told us kids when we came in to point the finger at one of our siblings for their misdeeds that there were three fingers pointing back to us.

In other words, I'd like to share the idea that in order to overcome toxic relationships, instead of focusing on what others are doing, we first take a look at ourselves.

Could it be that we are toxic to ourselves? Let's consider:

1. What kind of inner thoughts and mutterings do you have concerning yourself?

1. Do you speak unkindly about yourself to yourself?
2. Do you criticize yourself when you mess up?
3. Do you constantly say, "Sorry" or take the blame when you did no wrong?

2. What kind of sabotaging do you do to your own dreams, desires and goals?

1. Do you even allow yourself to have them?
2. Do you give yourself permission to put them as a priority?
3. Do you make promises to yourself...

There is a wonderful promise of overcoming when we are yoked with Jesus!

A Yoke – a wooden crosspiece that is fastened over the necks of two animals and attached to the plough or cart that they are to pull. See image:

When the animals are not of equal size, strength and temperament, the work load does not flow, it may take longer to complete the task and both suffer pain and sores and overall illness.

In Matthew 11: 28-30 Jesus tells us to “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

What a wonderful promise of overcoming when we are yoked with Jesus!
I believe that because of this wonderful promise we are able to find and value other relationships in our lives.

When you choose your relationships, Choose them wisely

Sometimes we are bound by blood, sometimes we are bound by choice, and sometimes we are bound due to circumstances. But the truth is, we are bound to people and we cannot escape that fact.

What we can escape, or at least minimize, is the toxic relationships that we have. It might be due to family relationships, professional relationships, or it might be due to 100 different reasons. But the worst of them all are the toxic relationships that we are in by choice. They can be deadly! Yes, that’s right. They can be  deadly. Spiritually, emotionally and physically deadly.

Sometimes God takes people out of your life for a reason. We hang on for dear life to people that are holding us back. But God tells us, "It's time to grow and walk into that which I have for you but you’re stuck hanging with the bad crowd or in a toxic relationship."

The right people will lift you and inspire you. The wrong people will have a negative influence in your life. The people we choose to surround ourselves with are important to our spiritual health.
