Dealing with Denial - Episode 2

Mini-Series: Dealing with Denial

etting the Atmosphere for Tough Conversations

Let’s talk about setting the atmosphere for tough conversations to break free from denial.

First of all, don’t have these conversations when you’re angry, upset, emotionally overloaded or in the heat of the moment. That’s like pouring gasoline on a roaring fire. It will explode and cause more damage.

When you are aware that you’ve been in denial and are ready to open that closet door or lift the lid off of Pandora’s box strategically prepare for the tough conversation. It can be a conversation you hold with yourself or one that you have with another individual.

If you are emotionally exasperated with pent up feelings it’s best to separate yourself with some distance or space before you have “the talk.”

Take a break: Go for a walk, jog, swim, play tennis, hike etc. Expend the pent-up energy and emotional angst that wants to erupt....

Mini-Series: Dealing with Denial

Denial : Let’s Trash the Myths!

Denial is a popular way to protect oneself from reality that hurts us to think about. Denial is a protective mechanism that can shelter us for awhile. The mind (soul) can overload when our emotions (soul) can’t handle a particular crisis or problem.

Denial shields us from the hurt. It also keeps us from helping ourselves or the people we love the most! Denial always bothers the logic of our mind. We will make excuses for our denial which helps reinforce the original denial.

The MOTIVE for denial often starts with the noble concept of protecting ourselves or someone we love from further PAIN. The REALITY of denial is that it extends the hurt, multiplies the problems and almost always causes pain to other people.

Myth #1:

If we don’t talk about it, it will go away.
Truth Alert: Denial makes the hurt last longer and hurt more.

Myth #2:

Let’s pretend it didn’t really...

Finally, I commit myself to service.

My Miracle Morning Routine: Here is the breakdown of the terms and then exactly how I use them, in order:
T - Thanks
A - Affirm
S - Surrender
K - Kill
S - Serve

SERVE
The first four help me still my body, focus my mind, soften (or heal) my heart, and tap into my soul so I am connected to the spirit. Finally, I commit myself to service.

A life lived in service to one’s self is a miserable life. That’s why so many rich people are miserable. You would think they’d be happier because they have so much. But most are not. Having wealth is not the problem. Thinking that wealth will make them happy—is the problem.

We will never find fulfillment if we think it’s about “me getting mine.” Fulfillment is found in service to others. Period. That’s how God wired this universe. We can’t escape it, no matter how hard we try.

So, before I get up from my seat, I remind...

Reject, Receive, Replace

My Miracle Morning Routine - Here is the breakdown of the terms and then exactly how I use them, in order:
T - Thanks
A - Affirm
S - Surrender
K - Kill
S - Serve

SURRENDER
In Alcoholics Anonymous, the first and second steps are to admit powerlessness, and dependence upon a higher power. That’s called “surrender.” On my own, I’ll make a mess of my life. But, guided by and in alignment with God, I can be restored and thrive.

Jesus spoke to his followers about what I call “secrets of the universe.” One was the encouragement to visualize myself as a branch and God as the Vine (see John 15). The Vine is the life source. The branch is the beneficiary—reaching out into the world and producing fruit. Branches produce good fruit to the extent that they remain connected to—dependent upon—the Vine.

Detached branches are sticks. Trying to manufacture fruit apart from the Vine...

Reinforce and affirm the promises of God

Here is the breakdown of the terms and then exactly how I use them, in order:
T - Thanks
A - Affirm
S - Surrender
K - Kill
S - Serve

THANKS
Gratitude is the best place to start. The scriptures have been bullish on thankfulness for thousands of years. Our ancestors were whispering to us at every turn, “Give thanks to God for everything, all the time. It’s better this way.” Turns out, they were right. Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.-1 Thessalonians 5:18

Hear the whisper of the Lord: “Thankfulness is a royal road to draw near Me. A thankful heart has plenty of room for Me. When you thank Me for the many pleasures I provide, you affirm that I am God, from whom all
blessings flow. When adversity strikes and you thank Me anyway, your trust in My sovereignty is a showpiece in invisible realms. Fill up the spare moments of your life with...

Miracle Mornings - Episode 1

Mini-Series: Miracle Mornings

Exciting. Miracles. Prayer. Outcomes.

A friend of mine, Caleb developed this morning miracle routine that has blessed my life. I’ve tweaked it to fit me and I encourage you to do the same.

Here’s the idea:
It’s made up of 4 main concepts:
Exciting. Miracles. Prayer. Outcomes.

Exciting
Exciting because every day is a gift and an adventure. When you’re connected to the Author of Life—the Master Storyteller and Maker of
the Universe—anything is possible, and you never know where a day might lead. Anything that tends to make you anxious is a growth opportunity.

Hear the Lord whisper: “Instead of running away from challenges, embrace them, eager to gain all the blessings I have hidden in the difficulties. If you believe that I am sovereign over every aspect of your life, it is possible to trust Me in all situations. Don’t waste energy regretting the way things are or thinking about what might...

Holiness

This Episode: Holiness

In this episode Mama J and Chad have a great conversation about infectiousness, Love, Holiness and choice.

"Holiness is not infectious." Haggai 2:10-14

Haggai describes how God's glory will fill His house. We are God's house, His dwelling place. God was teaching His priests (which we are also) the principle that holiness and unholiness don't mix.

If I put a drop of saltwater into a container of pure water; it's no longer pure. If a moldy piece of fruit is in a basket with good fruit, what happens? The moldy fruit contaminates the whole basket.

However, the reverse is not true. Saltwater is not made pure by pouring pure water into it. Good apples in the basket will not un-contaminate the moldy one. Same with us. God gave Adam and Eve freedom, authority and access to Himself. He only had one restriction: "Don't eat from that tree!"

There HAD to be a choice involved. Otherwise their relationship with God would not be based on love-because-I-want-to, but...

It's Good News!

The Good News!

I am, that I am - everything is within HIM!

I recently had a wonderful conversation with my dad about Salvation. He and I spoke about sin. He shared with me that that first reference to it in the bible implied "being without". My own research further revealed that in the latin languages it refers to "something missing, being without".

What a mindshift this understanding had brought.

In Sunday school class I was taught that -"Jesus died for your sins" - the focus is on the act of sin (missing the mark, breaking the law, etc) and the hopeless guilt and shame of it. This is certainly not condusive to a dymanic relationship with my Saviour as I the hopeless sinner will always sin.

BUT...

Understanding that sin means I am without or missing something that can be found in Jesus my Saviour - I immediately have hope and the journey of restoration can begin bringing with it a completeness and because of that little to no chance of a repeat offence.
