Physical hunger is a driving force in our lives. It moves us to action.
However, when we don't feel well or go through a difficult trial we can lose our appetite.
Spiritual hunger works the same way.
Our born-again spirit man was created to hunger for God and His presence. When we are hungry for Him we seek time to be with Him.
When we go through painful situations or hardship (if we don't pay attention) we can lose our appetite for God's presence.
We become distracted and focused on "that." We may dutifully read our Bible or pray through our prayer list, but we do it listlessly and without passion as we've allowed the "trial" to take over our desire for Him.
Pharaoh was the food provider for the children of Israel when they were in captivity. God freed them and He became their provider. Each day He gave them manna. They were allowed to pick up all they wanted for that day. On the sixth day they could take enough for the 7th day, the Sabbath.
If they took more than they could eat, it would spoil. God's provision was more than enough. Their hunger determined the amount they picked up. No matter their hunger level, God provided more than enough for that day.
Time in God's presence fellowshipping with Him is our daily bread, our manna. Jesus is our Bread of Life. (John 6:35)
He is always willing to feed us with all that we desire to consume. He prepares a banqueting table before us even in the midst of our enemies. (Psalm 23)
There's always more if we are hungry for more.
We determine our own feast or famine of God's presence.
What about you today?
Are you hungry to sit in His presence and sup with Him?
Revelation 3:20. He's standing at the door knocking. Or, are you "ok" for now and decide you can skip a meal? Are you going through something very painful or difficult and you are focused on the problem/the hurt/the pain more than on the Solver of all Problems?
The good news is that God desires your fellowship.
I don't know about you but when someone doesn't want to be with me then I don't have time for them either, right? BUT GOD...His ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts at a higher plane than ours. (Isaiah 55:8-9)
He knows you need Him. He's patient enough for you to figure it out...that you can't live life fully alive without Him. Ahh, now we're getting somewhere...
Physical hunger, once satisfied, wanes until it's time for another meal.
Spiritually, however, we have the capacity to continually hunger for God and live, walk and feed in His presence and always crave more of Him.
In 1972, when I received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit and my prayer language, my hunger meter for God went full tilt. I felt like David when he wrote, "My soul follows hard after Thee..." (Psalm 68:3)
I know I need to keep my hunger for God a top priority as I've discovered I can't live without Him. He is my all in all, my everything. Therefore, I am satisfied continuously...how awesome is that!
Examine yourselves today...and every day.
How hungry are you? Your feast awaits...
