Jeremiah was sent to God's kids with a message. It was not going to be an easy one to deliver. It was about an issue in their relationship with God that was not up to par. (Jeremiah 34-35)
The good thing they were doing was they had kept the words of their forefathers for generations to not drink wine, or build houses but instead they lived in tents, etc.
Without question they all honored their forefathers instructions obediently to the letter.
Here was God's problem:
You obey man's instructions but when I give you instructions you decide whether or not you want to honor Me and My words.
Ouch! Their toes were really getting stepped on.
What about our generation?
Jesus basically delivered the same message as Jeremiah: "These people honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me. They worship Me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules."
(Matthew 15:8-9) [Also see: Acts 4:19,5:29, I John 2:4 and John 14:23]
True worship, true honor is demonstrated through obedience to God. Anyone can sing and dance, but who will obey God's instructions?
We are coming up to Palm Sunday and Resurrection Day to celebrate the obedience of Jesus to follow His Father's instructions to the letter... all the way to the cross, then to hell and back. He did it for the joy set before Him, even though it was very painful to do in His humanity. (Hebrews 12)
Jesus then issued some instructions for you and I: "GO into all the world..." (Mark 16, Matthew 28)
Today's Challenge! Check out your obedience quotient:
On a scale of 1-10 how are you lining up to what pleases God in the
following two areas?
1. THE BASICS: (for all followers of Christ)
Love, give, forgive, kindness, patience, share the Gospel, make disciples, etc.
2. THE SPECIFICS: (for you)
Assignments given to you which can be unique to you and not meant for everyone else to do.
In your prayer time this week talk to the Lord about Your obedience quotient. See what He has to say.
Then line up and step into obedience.God's rewards and blessings are coming your way.
I challenge you to go from "Oh me!" to "Yes and Amen!"
From "Ouch!" to "Hallelujah!"
