This scripture is quoted often. However, it’s wise to look at the context in which it was written. God told His people they would be in captivity for 70 years. “After that,” He said, “I will visit you and perform My good word toward you.” 70 years! Yikes! That’s a long time.

PSALMS 91

Safe and Secure

1 When you abide under the shadow of Shaddai,  

you are hidden in the strength of God Most High.

2 He’s the hope that holds me and the stronghold to shelter me,

the only God for me, and my great confidence.

3 He will rescue you from every hidden trap of the enemy,  

and he will protect you from false accusation

and any deadly curse.  

4 His massive arms   are wrapped around you, protecting you.

You can run under his covering of majesty and hide.

His arms of faithfulness are a shield keeping you from harm.

5 You will never worry about an attack of demonic forces at night

nor have to fear a spirit of darkness coming against you.

6 Don’t fear a thing!

Whether by night or by day, demonic danger will not trouble you,

“The mature children of God are those who are moved by the impulses of the Holy Spirit. And you did not receive the ‘spirit of religious duty,’ leading you back into the fear of never being good enough. But you have received the ‘Spirit of full acceptance,’ enfolding you into the family of God.” Romans 8:14-15 (TPT)

“Moved by the impulses of the Holy Spirit”…produces mature, fully ripened, perfect-for-use children of God. The Holy Spirit nudges you to keep on the straight and narrow much like a mother nudges her children to follow her through the store. However, if a child wanders and pulls cans off the shelf, she will not use just a nudge to bring the errant child back in line. The child chooses to learn through a nudge or a larger consequence.

God has glorified His Son. Now, as His child through salvation, you are transformed into sharing the likeness of Jesus. God called you to Himself. He transferred the perfect right-standing-with-God (righteousness) that Jesus has and bestowed that position upon you
