The Psalmist poured out his heart to God. David admitted his misgivings, his sense of being treated unfairly and his angst as his enemies seemed to prosper beyond what they deserved (in his humble opinion).
He continued his lament by saying, "Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure and have washed my hands in innocence." (Psalm 73:13)
He further stated that as he tried to make sense of it all, what's fair and unfair...he couldn't figure out God's system.
Have you ever been in that quandary?
You felt like you were doing everything you could to live right, to live for God, to serve Him and others and ???
I've yet to come across anyone who hasn't felt that exact same way at some point in their life.
"When I tried to understand all this, it troubled me deeply til I entered the sanctuary of God (His presence); then I understood their final destiny." (eternity without God...unfathomable.) (17)
Having a relationship with God, knowing Jesus ever lives to intercede for us, having the keys, the authority, to enter into God's presence 24/7 and knowing that eternity with God is OUR final destination...
...all of a sudden the unfairness of life, the seeming disregard some have for God and His ways and that it may, at times, seem as though they 'have it all' right now...well, that mistaken belief simply vanishes.
We have access to God in good times and bad and everywhere in-between. We are blessed to experience God's personal presence, His holy breath infusing our spirit...well, let's just put it this way...like the Psalmist did..."God is my portion forever." Enough said. End of subject. (73:26)
The here and now doesn't really matter. It's here today and gone tomorrow. God keeps good books. He knows what's up. Nothing escapes His attention.
Our job is not to police others. Our job is to stay in Him.
When we realize we sound like immature, unwise sons and daughters feeling sorry for ourselves we can relate to verse 21-22, "When my heart was grieved and my heart embittered, I was senseless and ignorant; I was a brute beast before You."
I remember my brother getting too big for his britches and mouthing off to my dad with similar complaints. He was 21 and dad was in his mid 50's. Dad said, "OK, let's take it outside. Put on the gloves and we'll settle this man to man."
Mind you, our dad had been a professional boxer in his day. He knew where to hit, when and how hard to hit in order to teach his young son a lesson. John found out the hard way. Dad landed one punch. John ended up on the ground.
He "woke up" like the Psalmist did and realized he was way in over his head and perhaps dad knew more than he had given him credit for. His perspective changed.
Perhaps you've found yourself questioning God, His timing, His way of dealing with you. Come to your senses. Realize God knows the end from the beginning and nothing escapes His notice or His care.
Humble yourself before Him. "Earth has nothing I desire besides You. My flesh and my heart may fail, but GOD is the strength of my heart and my portion forever." (25-26)
God you are my portion.
