Fulfillment:
Satisfaction as a result of fully developing one's abilities or character.
The achievement of something desired, promised, or predicted.
People often live unfulfilled lives; trying to achieve time and again only to see their plans thwarted and dreams dashed.
It can seem as though a cloud of disappointments and sorrows are their lot in life.
"...a longing fulfilled is a tree of life." "...longing fulfilled is sweet to the soul." Proverbs 13:12 & 19
I've discovered that when we allow Christ to be the source of our fulfillment, we rest in His ability to complete us.
However, if we look towards our own accomplishments and abilities in order to measure our "fulfillment factor" we will fall short time and again.
A beautiful tapestry hanging on a wall is a work of art to behold.
From the wall's perspective, however, it is a mess.
The threads to make the artistic design look very ugly on the backside.
But from the front, the creator sees the completed work. And from their viewpoint, it's fulfilling to see their handiwork.
Paul wrote, "Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion (fulfillment) until the day of Christ Jesus." Philippians 1:6
Since you are seated with Christ in heavenly places you can choose to trust God's perspective of your life in Him. By faith you see as He sees...
a vessel of honor in the making, made in His image. Ephesians 2:4-7
Or, you can look with your human perspective and see all the messy threads on the backside and live with a sense of falling short of not measuring up to whatever "standard" you thought you should have attained...by now.
Allow God to do His full work in you knowing that He will complete you as you allow His Spirit to create a masterpiece pleasing in His sight.
Ahhh! That's true fulfillment indeed.
Surrender brings rest from the useless striving to achieve.
"Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen!" Ephesians 3:20
