What’s the one thing no one in our generation seems to have today?
Enough!!!
Enough Money. Enough likes on their instagram posts or enough followers.
People are buying into the idea that we are defined by what we have and what we do…not by who we are.
Thankfully, we have JESUS….The Bible tells us that our identity is not found in what we possess, it is found in who possesses us….Hallelujah. We are not enslaved by our possessions BUT rather set free by the blood of JESUS.
“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” -1 Timothy 6:10
Let's understand:
Having money isn’t evil.
Loving money too much leads to evils.
Chasing money can lead you away from what matters most.
Chasing money can lead to self-inflicted wounds.
There’s nothing wrong with being wealthy or setting an earnings goal. There is, however, always danger and vulnerability lurking when it comes to pursuing more wealth.
Most of the stress and anxiety regarding money comes from fear: fear of not having enough, fear of money defining you, fear of losing what you already have.
The fact is that wealth is a state of being that is spiritual as well as financial.
The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. (Psalm 23:1)
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
What do these verses say to you?
Do they tell you that you already have everything you need, could ever want or desire…in Jesus? We have abundance. More than we could ever dream of… but the enemy has tricked us into this poverty mentality and trapped us so that we don’t walk in the fullness that God has for us.
People carry their stories around with them and can’t wait to tell anyone that will listen:
I work so hard, but still can’t make ends meet.
If the economy would turn around, I might have a chance.
You don’t understand what it is like to struggle. It’s the story of my life!- Soon as I have any extra, I’ll be the first to give back and live generously.
Let's focus instead on being a blessing in people’s lives.
Find a way every day to do something to add more value to other people’s lives, then you will stop worrying about everything. Just like you don’t worry about taking a breath wondering if the oxygen is going to be there. You don’t even think about it, you know it’s going to be there.
Contrary to popular beliefs, you don’t have to be “rich” to be a money-lover. Almost no one thinks they are rich. But so many people are inflicting wounds on themselves, trading future “griefs” for current comforts.
Let’s choose to be grateful for what we have; honestly and authentically grateful. Then set growth goals from a place of gratitude and generosity.
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” -Ephesians 2:10
There are average performances, but there are no average people.
Everything you do is unique because you are unique.
Your outcome might be average. Your grade might be average. Your salary might be average. You might land in an average position at work, but there is nothing average about who you are.
The more confident you become in your God-given value and uniqueness, the more you will thank Him for making you so wonderfully complex.
