Dwelling Place: home, refuge, residence, a place to restore and refuel. Sounds perfect! A place to sit down, to remain...count me in!
In our world sitting still is considered unproductive. We've got to be busy, busy, busy cause we're not a slacker...and on and on the mantra plays keeping us wound up tighter than an old clock.
David found a secret to becoming a man after God's own heart. He discovered a dwelling place in Him. He took the time and effort needed to go there and abide.
Listen to his words in Psalm 91: "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, 'He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.'...If you make the Most High your dwelling - even the Lord, who is my refuge then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent."
David didn't keep the treasure he discovered to himself. He gives us the inside track to his discovery. The mystery? Dwell, or take up residence, sit down and remain in God's presence.
The term dwell is a miner's word carrying the idea to "dig deep for the treasure of the Lord is there."
It takes work to sit still. To wait upon the Lord. To quiet oneself from all the voices of distraction and expectations of others that we acquire daily. We must dig deep to still our mind, will and emotions in order to find the true treasure...the Lord of glory Himself!
Psalm 42:7 "Deep calls unto deep." He's calling...will you respond in kind?
David wrote in Psalm 27:4, "One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek, that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple."
God's temple is Himself. Our body, as Christians, is the dwelling place or temple of the Holy Spirit. When we sit before the Lord in quietness, waiting before Him in expectation and anticipation of communion with Him...He will be found.
Take the challenge today. Be the person who runs after God's heart. Go somewhere without your phone, computer, people, to do list, etc. etc. and dig deep to find the true treasure...
"Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord." Psalm 27:14
