Turning defeat into a WIN - with Ray Wienand

EPIC CONQUERORS PODCAST:

Turning defeat into a WIN - Episode 1

"Defeat is temporal, but only if you do something about it."

Defeated means: (a) Having been defeated in a battle or contest. “The defeated army” Yep, that’s right. It means you lost; you have been beaten; victory was not yours.

I don’t know anyone that likes to lose. It’s not a nice feeling. It gets you down, it makes you miserable and can even make you depressed. But defeat is part of life. We all experience defeat at some stage in our lives. Individuals, teams, organizations, armies, governments and even entire nations know defeat. We see it in news headlines, on television, we read it on social media.

But we also read it in the Bible. Yep, defeat is in the Bible! It’s not created by man or the devil. God uses it in His greater plan for us. Sometimes we need defeat to bring us to our knees. Sometimes we need defeat to realize that we are out of God’s will. Sometimes it's through our own doings, our own plans and ideas, our own disobedience.

Disobedience to rules and laws. Disobedience towards our better judgement. But most often; disobedience to God’s word. Ask the Israelites, they can tell you about being defeated. Israel was defeated at Ai (Joshua 7:1 – 5). Israel was defeated by the Philistines (1 Samuel 4:10). Every time they stepped out of line they were defeated, beaten and demoralized.

Only then did they come to their senses and realize why they were defeated. They had to confess and repent of their sins. They had to get back in line with God’s commands. They had to consult Him first before they planned an attack.

Victory would come to them through obedience and listening to God. Armies and nations feared them. They had a reputation that God was on their side. He favored them.

But is defeat only in physical battles? No, it’s not! Defeated also means: (b) Demoralized and overcome by adversity. “She looked defeated, quite unlike her normal self”. Defeat can be spiritual and emotional.

For me that’s the worst type of defeat. And the most difficult to overcome. There are so many things in life that can make you feel defeated. It can be a work situation, a toxic relationship, a financial situation, etc. it can give you the feeling that life has no meaning. It can make you feel depressed and downright miserable.

Oh, the enemy loves it so much when we feel defeated. He likes to stoke the fire. Reminding us of our worthlessness. Reminding us of all our past defeats. He will even use our best friends and family to stoke that fire. He will try his utmost best to keep us where we are. But we can overcome it. We can turn a defeat into a winning situation.

No matter where we are. No matter how we feel. But we must face the facts. We must admit our defeat and our situation. It does not help if we deny it. We only lie to ourselves and others, when we do that. How do we change the situation? How do we turn it into a winning situation?

We need the right people to speak with. People we can trust. People that will support and lift us up. People that can pray for and with us. What we don’t need is people that will give their opinionated comments. We don’t need people that will gossip about our situation. And we definitely don’t need negative naysayers around us.

We must spend time in the word of God. We need to spend time in His presence. There are so many encouraging verses in the Bible. Use it! Use it to feel better. Use it to overcome your situation. Use it to be a winner. God doesn’t want us to live out our daily existence discouraged and hopeless.

“For the Lord your God is He who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory.” Deuteronomy 20:4

“The Lord will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before you. They shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways.” Deuteronomy 28:7

“Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all.” I Chronicles 29:11

“But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26

“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” Romans 8:37

These are only a few verses in the Bible that we can use. Spend time in God’s word. Search and find encouragement in them. You are a winner. Defeat is temporal, but only if you do something about it.
